UDMB ORIENTATION 2008 – success!

Two weekends of UDMB Orientations are in the books and we had a wonderful turnout! The rookie brass and woodwind class is shaping up nicely. When we add in the rookie guard/twirler/percussion numbers we are just about at 100 1st year members! And that will increase as there are a bunch of people I will be hearing during their DelaWorld visits or who are sending in tapes. The goal: 125 rookies so hopefully we’ll get there! Here’s how the brass/wws are broken down:

  • 15 Flutes
  • 13 Clarinets
  • 8 Alto Saxes
  • 6 Tenor Saxes
  • 16 Trumpets
  • 3 Mellophones
  • 5 Trombones
  • 3 Baritones
  • 9 Tubas

In all the craziness of the ORIENTATION days I forgot to bring up Ireland with them! What was I thinking?? Or in this case NOT thinking?! So if you are an incoming rookie to the band make sure you check out the information about the Ireland trip. It is in your future–December 2009/January 2010. Not this coming New Year’s but the NEXT one.

Colorguard final auditions are this Saturday, June 21st, and percussion mini-camps are right around the corner in July. Dr. Rob is working frantically on music for us and before you know it I’ll be sending out messages about how to download your parts. And maybe he’ll even be able to get down for a game or two so you can meet the man behind the notes–we’ll see.

More soon…..hope everyone is enjoying their summer and getting geared up for a great season!
